Terms of Service
Last updated: October 2026. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form a binding agreement between you (“you”, “User”) and the operators of Project Cypher (“Project Cypher”, “we”, “us”, “our”) regarding the website, progressive web app, and related software at projectcypher.app and any successor domains (collectively, the “Service”). By creating an account, browsing, joining a chamber, sending a message, or otherwise using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Please read carefully. These Terms include important limits on liability, a licence grant for content you post, rules for anonymous chat, and provisions on virtual goods and paid features.
1. What Project Cypher is
Project Cypher is an online platform for real-time anonymous chat rooms (“chambers”), direct messages, voice/video features where available, profiles, and related social tools. The Service is designed so people can talk without tying every conversation to their offline identity. It is for personal, non-commercial entertainment unless we expressly authorise otherwise.
2. Eligibility (18+ only)
You may use the Service only if you are at least eighteen (18) years old and able to form a binding contract under applicable law. Access by anyone under 18 is strictly prohibited. Creating an account asks for a date of birth. We may suspend or delete accounts that we reasonably believe belong to minors. Accounts previously removed for serious violations may not return without our written permission.
3. Licence to use the Service
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Service for your personal use as the product features allow. We retain all rights not expressly granted. We may change, suspend, rate-limit, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. We may terminate this licence for any reason, including breach of these Terms or our Community Rules.
4. Your account
You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping credentials secure. Do not use another person’s account without permission. Provide accurate information where required (for example age attestation or recovery email). You may delete your account through in-app settings where available; deletion does not erase content already seen by others or records we must keep for safety, fraud prevention, or law. We may contact you at any email you provide for service notices, security alerts, and material changes to these Terms.
5. Anonymity and personal data between users
Anonymity is a core expectation of the Service. We will not require you to publish your real legal name or social-network accounts as a condition of chatting. You agree not to pressure other users for personal identifying information, and not to collect or harvest account names or contact details from the Service for spam, stalking, or commercial lists. If you voluntarily share personal details, you do so at your own risk. Our handling of data we collect as operator is described in the Privacy Policy.
6. Community rules and prohibited conduct
You must follow our Community Rules. Without limiting those rules, you agree not to:
- Use the Service if you are under 18, or create content involving minors in a sexual context (CSAM is reported to NCMEC / law enforcement).
- Harass, threaten, dox, stalk, bully, or hatefully abuse others; or impersonate staff, moderators, or other people.
- Send sexual photos or graphic sexual messages, or persist with sexual advances after refusal, silence, or a block.
- Flood, spam, raid, run bots/scrapers, scrape the Service, or impose unreasonable load on our systems.
- Advertise scams, illicit goods, commercial sex, or unauthorised promotions.
- Hack, reverse engineer (except where local law forbids that restriction), inject malware, bypass rate limits, filters, mutes, or bans, or create burner accounts to evade enforcement.
- Upload content you do not have rights to share, or that is unlawful in your jurisdiction or ours.
We may remove content, mute, jail, or permanently ban accounts and associated devices. You remain bound by surviving provisions of these Terms after termination.
7. User content
“User Content” means anything you submit, post, stream, or transmit through the Service — including messages, nicknames, avatars, images, audio, video, tips, reactions, and profile text. You retain ownership of your User Content. You are solely responsible for it and for the consequences of sharing it. We do not claim ownership of your User Content, but we need a licence to operate the platform (see §8).
Platform role: Project Cypher acts as a hosting / intermediary service. We do not author, endorse, or verify User Content. Under applicable safe-harbour frameworks (including the UK Online Safety Act 2023 duties as they apply to us, the EU Digital Services Act hosting provisions where applicable, and 47 U.S.C. § 230 for U.S. users), we are not liable for third-party speech we did not create. You use the Service and interact with other users at your own risk.
We may — but are not obliged to — monitor, refuse, or remove User Content that violates these Terms or law. We aim to act on valid reports of severe abuse within 24 hours where practicable.
8. Licence you grant us
By posting User Content, you grant Project Cypher a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable licence to host, store, reproduce, transmit, display, perform, and create technical adaptations of that content solely as needed to operate, secure, moderate, improve, and promote the Service (for example caching, thumbnails, push notifications, or safety review). You also grant other users a limited licence to view and interact with your User Content as the Service functionally allows. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for reasonable residual copies in backups, logs, caches, or content already shared with others, and except where we must retain material for legal or safety reasons.
9. Sensitive topics
Do not post sexual photos, pornography, or graphic sexual messages. A chamber label does not authorise illegal content, non-consensual imagery, or commercial sexual solicitation. You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service.
10. Our intellectual property
The Service — including software, branding, layout, logos, documentation, and materials we create (excluding your User Content) — is owned by Project Cypher or its licensors. You may not copy, scrape, sell, reverse engineer (except as mandatory law allows), or create derivative works from our materials without written permission. Feedback you send us may be used freely without obligation to you.
11. Virtual goods, coins, tips and subscriptions
Chat points, coins, cosmetic items, tip effects, VIP/Pro access, and similar features (“Virtual Goods”) are limited, revocable, non-transferable licences for entertainment inside the Service. They have no cash value, are not property you own, and cannot be sold, gifted outside the product features, or redeemed for money unless we expressly enable a cash-out programme in writing. Creator cash-out and diamond purchases are currently unavailable. We may modify, rebalance, or discontinue Virtual Goods at any time.
Paid features are billed at prices shown at purchase. Except where mandatory consumer law requires otherwise, purchases are non-refundable once digital delivery has begun. By buying immediate digital content or subscriptions, you request supply to start straight away and acknowledge you lose any 14-day cooling-off withdrawal right under UK Consumer Contracts Regulations / EU Directive 2011/83/EU once provision starts. You are responsible for taxes and for charges on your payment method. Account bans for breach do not create a refund right.
12. No professional advice
Conversations on the Service are not medical, legal, financial, therapeutic, or other professional advice. Do not rely on other users for professional guidance. Seek qualified help for serious personal, medical, or legal issues.
13. Third-party links and services
The Service may link to or integrate third-party sites, payment processors, app stores, GIF providers, authentication, hosting, or analytics. We do not control those services and are not responsible for their content, policies, or outages. Your use of them is at your own risk and may be subject to their terms.
14. Mobile apps and store builds
If you install a Project Cypher app from Apple App Store or Google Play, the store’s rules also apply. The contract for the app remains between you and us, not Apple or Google. Store operators have no obligation to provide maintenance for our app. You confirm you are not in a sanctioned country and not on a restricted-party list where such restrictions apply to your use. Carrier data charges are your responsibility.
15. Security
We use commercially reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the Service. No system is perfectly secure. You acknowledge that unauthorised parties might attempt to defeat our safeguards, and that you use the Service understanding that residual risk.
16. Indemnity
To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Project Cypher and its operators, developers, hosts, affiliates, and agents from claims, damages, losses, and reasonable legal fees arising out of: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your User Content; (c) your breach of these Terms or Community Rules; (d) your violation of law or third-party rights (including privacy and intellectual property); or (e) access to your account by someone using your credentials.
17. Disclaimer of warranties
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS, OR THAT USER CONTENT WILL BE ACCURATE OR APPROPRIATE FOR YOUR PURPOSES. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS EXCLUDES LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE EXCLUDED UNDER ENGLISH LAW (INCLUDING FOR DEATH OR PERSONAL INJURY CAUSED BY NEGLIGENCE, OR FOR FRAUD).
18. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR REPUTATION; PERSONAL INJURY ARISING FROM USER INTERACTIONS; OR UNAUTHORISED ACCESS TO YOUR ACCOUNT OR DEVICE — WHETHER BASED ON CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY. OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF: (A) £50 GBP; OR (B) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID TO US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITS; IN THOSE CASES OUR LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED.
19. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that: (i) consumers in the UK/EU may bring claims in their local courts where mandatory law so provides; and (ii) we may seek injunctive relief in any jurisdiction to protect our intellectual property or the security of the Service. Where lawful, disputes should first be raised through Contact Support for informal resolution. You agree to pursue claims only in your individual capacity and waive participation in class or representative actions to the extent such waiver is enforceable.
20. Changes, assignment and general
We may update these Terms by posting a revised version in the Service and updating the “Last updated” date. Material changes take effect when posted or on a later date we specify; continued use after that date constitutes acceptance. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a reorganisation or sale. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These Terms, the Community Rules, Privacy Policy, and DMCA policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
21. Contact
